We have recently launch a new FT Android app. If you would like to try it, you can find out more here: http://apps.ft.com/android/

The new app is a hybrid built using our HTML5 web app as a basis, wrapped up as a native Android app and available for download from the Android Market. It’s our second product launch powered by the FT web app – the first was the iOS version, which has seen 1m downloads since it went live earlier this year.

Until now, about half the people visiting the FT’s mobile site,
m.ft.com, have been doing so on Android devices. Through our new app, they can now enjoy a significantly better experience on their phones and tablets, including the ability to download the current edition for reading offline, smoother navigation between sections, easier log-in, quicker access to markets data and search and the ability to choose different regional editions.

We’ve been running the app quietly in beta for a while, gathering enough user feedback to be confident the app would support a high-quality experience across the ever-expanding range of Android devices and software versions.

Now that the FT Android app has had its full launch we’re hoping for lots more feedback, all of which will help us add new features that our customers genuinely want, as well as fixing any bugs we haven’t picked up.

We recognise we haven’t spotted every single possible bug in testing because the Android platform is so diverse – there are simply millions of possible permutations of carrier, manufacturer, Android version and connection type – it’s impossible to treat them all. So if you pick up any issues in our app that you think could benefit from a second look – please do drop us a line at Help@FT.com

We hope you enjoy the brand new Android app – we’ll continue to improve it over the coming months, as well as turn our attention to the many new devices and platforms coming up in 2012.
